Up and over solid oak garage doors

Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Oak up and over garage doorsBespoke Gates and Garage Doors work with many clients both trade and end users, builders and automation companies alike.

We enjoy a challenging request from any customer and up and over garage doors with solid oak in fills certainly presented a weight issue.

The brief as presented to us was quite clear.  The doors must operate as up and over garage doors but look like traditional joinery externally.

Up and over garage doors can have many different infill designs, from raised and fielded panels to tongue and groove boards, all available in a number of different timbers and finishes.

The infill chosen here was a classic bead and butt moulding comprising of a vertical bead machined to one edge of the board, giving a bump shaped relief, and breaking the eye away from what could appear as just flat planks joined together. For a clean look there were no fixings present on the face of the doors, and the boards were in fact fixed from the rear.

The frames used are bespoke made powder coated steel frames produced to order in Germany and are quite unique in their design.

These doors were installed with automation to be controlled by remote key fobs.

Once the fitting was finished the oak was coated with a natural oil to preserve the natural beauty of the wood.

In all, once the builders had finished all the ground works and with the addition of lighting details, the project had a high quality finish, and looked great.
